This Saturday January 31 is the annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and we are looking forward to hearing from our clergy and lay leaders on the many challenges of our life and what the Diocese is doing in its mission for God. Thank you to Rosemary Addy and Ana Janckson-Cole for attending as our delegates and we look forward to hearing from them this coming Sunday.
On Sunday February 1 we will host Bishop Eugene Sutton from the Diocese and are looking forward to meeting him and having a meaningful discussion after the service. We are reminded that we are many churches and one Diocese and that together we can do so much more than any of us on our own. We are grateful for what the Diocese is doing for us and for the many opportunities the Diocese provides to help the larger community in which we live. Below are the lyrics from the hymn sung at our 9 am Zoom service that beautifully capture all the possibilities emanating from accepting God in our life.
Hymn: Will you come and follow me (v 1,2,5)
Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown
In you and you in me?
Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
In you and you in me
Lord, your summons echoes true
When you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
And never be the same.
In your company I'll go
Where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I'll move and live and grow
In you and you in me.
