Good Shepherd Endowment Fund

The Vestry of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church has established an Endowment Fund to support our church’s mission in the years ahead.

What is the purpose of the Endowment Fund?

The purpose of the Fund is to generate income that can be used for the church’s capital needs, outreach ministries and grants, seed money for new ministries and special one-time projects, and for other purposes as designated by donors.

How does the Endowment Fund work?

The Endowment Fund is managed by the Vestry with the support of a three-member Endowment Committee made up of Good Shepherd parishioners.  For the present, the Vestry and the Committee have agreed that contributions to the Fund should be invested with an eye to growing the Fund’s assets until they can generate meaningful amounts of income for the purposes listed above.  When that time comes, the Fund’s principal will not be touched, but the Vestry, in its discretion, may distribute earnings from the Fund to achieve those purposes.

How can I contribute to the Endowment Fund?

Good Shepherd will accept gifts of cash, publicly or non-publicly traded securities, real estate, life insurance, or tangible personal property.  Good Shepherd also accepts deferred gifts through charitable or gift annuities, pooled income funds, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, bequests, and retained life estates.  All gifts must be reviewed by the Endowment Committee before being accepted by the Vestry.  Any questions concerning the review and acceptance of gifts will be referred to the Committee.

Gifts to the Endowment Fund may be given in two ways: (1) Unrestricted.  If the donor places no restrictions on the use of the gift, the Vestry will decide where best to use the gift based on the needs of the church.  (2) Restricted.  If the donor specifies a particular purpose or purposes of the gift (for example, outreach ministries), the Vestry will use the gift according to the donor’s wishes.  Gifts may be given either during the donor’s lifetime or as bequests upon the donor’s death.

Contributions should be directed to “The Endowment Fund of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.”
